For a long time, men’s mental health was something discussed quietly — if at all. Behind closed doors. Over a beer. Or not discussed until things reached breaking point.
But lately, something has shifted.
Men are talking. Sharing. Opening up. And crucially, supporting each other in ways that feel real, not performative. At Gopher Caddy, we’re proud to support men’s mental health, and we’re encouraged by how this conversation is evolving and becoming more honest, more visible, and more accepted.
The Confidence Conversation Men Have Been Avoiding
A recent article by mates Scotty and Frank from Man of Many explores this shift beautifully through their Male Confidence Index. Their work highlights what many of us already feel: confidence isn’t about bravado or “toughing it out” anymore. It’s about stability, purpose, energy, and feeling supported.
Men today are juggling more than ever; careers, families, financial pressure, identity, and expectations — often without the language or space to talk about how heavy that load can be.

What stood out most to us was how openly men are now acknowledging that confidence can fluctuate and that losing it doesn’t mean you’ve failed.
It means you’re human.
When Life Piles Up All at Once
Over the last year, we’ve seen this firsthand.
Craig, co-founder of Gopher Caddy experienced a period where his confidence dropped in a way we hadn’t seen before. Not because of one single thing, but because of everything.
Work.
Two businesses.
Two young kids.
Running a farm and caring for cattle.
Sorting out his father’s estate.
Grief.
Even with incredible support around him, that’s a lot for one person to carry.
And this is the reality for so many men — quietly holding it together, pushing through, telling themselves they’ll deal with it later.
Why FebFast Has Been a Game Changer
This year, Craig made the decision to take part in FebFast, supporting Lifeline and men’s mental health.
What started as “just a break from drinking” became something much bigger.
The change was tangible:
-
Better sleep
-
Clearer mindset
-
More energy in the mornings
-
Greater presence with family
-
A renewed sense of control
Last weekend, we all felt it, he shone again. Not in a loud or showy way, but in a grounded, confident, him way.
FebFast has been incredible for his mental health and wellbeing, and it’s reminded us how closely habits, mental clarity, and confidence are linked.
Supporting Men’s Mental Health Isn’t a Campaign — It’s a Commitment
At Gopher Caddy, supporting men’s mental health isn’t a once-a-year initiative or a box we tick. It’s personal.
Golf has always been about more than the scorecard — it’s connection, routine, walking side by side, and sometimes having the conversations that don’t happen anywhere else.
We believe:
-
Men deserve spaces where they can talk without judgement
-
Confidence doesn’t have to be constant to be real
-
Asking for support is strength
-
Looking after your mental health is part of looking after your mates
The Conversation Is Changing — And That’s a Win
What excites us most is that this isn’t just one story.
More men are sharing.
More mates are checking in.
More brands and platforms — like Man of Many, FebFast, and Mongrels Men — are creating space for honest discussion.
And that shift? That’s powerful.
If you’re struggling, you’re not alone.
If your confidence has dipped, it can come back.
If you’re supporting a mate, it matters more than you know.
We’re proud of Craig.
We’re proud to support men’s mental health.
And we’re proud to be part of a conversation that’s finally being spoken out loud.
