Golf for Women: How to Get Started and Find Your Golf Girls

Golf for Women: How to Get Started and Find Your Golf Girls

Thinking about getting into golf but not sure where to start?

Maybe your partner plays golf. Your friends have started playing. You’ve always wanted to try it but felt like you needed to know the rules, understand the lingo or already be good enough to join in.

Here’s the thing.

You don’t need to be good at golf to start playing golf.

You just need to give it a go.

And if you’re a woman looking to get started in golf, we’re looking for you.

Why More Women Are Getting Into Golf

Golf is changing.

More women are picking up a club, heading to the driving range, joining golf clubs and discovering that golf can be about so much more than the game itself.

It’s movement, fresh air, social connection and time outside. It’s a reason to catch up with friends and a new hobby you can enjoy at almost any age.

For women who are new to golf, it can also be a great way to meet new people and find a community.

But getting started can feel intimidating.

Where do you play? What clubs do you need? What does a handicap actually mean? And who are you supposed to play with when none of your friends golf?

That’s exactly why we’re building Gopher Girls.

Golf for Beginners: You Don't Need to Know Everything

If you’re learning golf, there can be a lot to take in.

Birdies. Bogeys. Divots. Wedges. Woods. Handicaps. Mulligans.

And then there’s actually trying to hit the ball.

The good news? You’ll learn as you go.

You don’t need to understand every golf term before you step onto a course.

You don’t need an expensive set of clubs.

You don’t need a perfect golf swing.

And you definitely don’t need to feel embarrassed about being a beginner.

Everyone started somewhere.

You’ll hit some great shots, completely miss some others and probably spend a little too much time looking for golf balls.

That’s part of learning.

Find Your Golf Girls

One of the hardest parts about getting into golf can be finding people to play with.

That’s where community comes in.

At Gopher, we want to help create a more welcoming space for women who are curious about golf, learning to play or simply looking for other women who enjoy getting outside and having fun.

Gopher Girls is about making golf more social and accessible.

You don't have to be an experienced golfer.

You don't need a handicap.

You don't even have to know if golf is going to be your thing yet.

Come along, have a hit, meet some girls and see where it takes you.

Pilates & Putts: A Different Way to Get Into Golf

One of the ways we’re bringing women together is through Pilates & Putts.

We wanted to create an event that combines movement, golf and social connection in a relaxed environment that feels welcoming to beginners.

So we combined Pilates with putting.

Because why not?

Start with Pilates, get moving and then head out for some putts with a group of women who are all there to have a good time.

No pressure. No experience required. Just Pilates, putts and plenty of laughs.

Pilates & Putts is designed to make trying golf feel less intimidating and more social.

It’s a chance to meet other women, try something new and maybe discover your new favourite hobby along the way.

You Don't Have to Be a "Golfer" Yet

This is something we really want women to remember.

You don’t have to call yourself a golfer just because you picked up a golf club.

You can be someone who is interested in golf.

Someone who wants to learn.

Someone who wants to hit the driving range.

Someone who enjoys a casual round with friends.

Someone who just wants to try something different.

There’s no right way to start.

Your first goal doesn't have to be breaking 100.

It can simply be hitting one clean shot.

Then another.

Then sinking a putt.

Then heading out for nine holes.

And before you know it, you might find yourself planning your weekends around golf.

Golf Is About More Than the Score

For us, getting more women into golf isn't about creating the perfect golfer.

It’s about creating more opportunities to connect.

It’s the Saturday morning round with your friends.

The coffee after golf.

The laugh when someone completely misses the ball.

The celebration when you finally sink that putt you’ve been practising.

It’s getting outside, moving your body and spending time with people you enjoy.

The memories you make can be just as important as the scorecard.

Thinking About Getting Started in Golf?

If you’ve been wondering how to get into golf, consider this your sign.

Start small.

Try a driving range.

Have a hit at a putt-putt course.

Ask a friend who plays if you can join them.

Find a beginner-friendly golf group.

And most importantly, don't worry about being perfect.

Golf is a game you can keep learning for years.

You’re going to have good days and bad days. You’re going to hit beautiful shots and absolute stinkers.

That’s golf.

And that’s the fun of it.
